Chemical upcycling represents an innovative solution to tackle the problem of plastic pollution, which is used in a few number of industrial applications, and aims to repurpose plastics, that cannot be recycled due to technologic, economic or ecological reasons, into the circular economy as a raw material. Aligned with its philosophy of adding high added value to waste, Biotrend signed a goodwill agreement with Honeywell UOP for a project to convert 90 thousand tons of mechanical non-recyclable plastic waste into 60 thousand tons of sustainable plastic raw materials per year. The project will be a first of its kind in terms of capacity.
